This report presents the results of the Norwegian foreign visitor survey 2006, including data for the summer season (May–September). In the year 2006 a total of nearly 3.9 million foreign guests stayed overnight in Norway, while 1.3 million were on a day trip from abroad. Foreign tourists spent a total of 26 million guestnights in Norway in 2006, of which holiday guests constituted 21.7 million guestnights. Business travel from abroad showed an increase in 2006. There has been a modest increase in the number of holiday guests, most noticeably among those travelling by air. The most important source market for overnight stays is Germany, followed by Sweden, Denmark, the UK, USA and the Netherlands. Altogether, 27 per cent of the foreign guest nights are spent in hotels. The holiday travellers during the summer period use four types of accomodation, namely hotels, overnight stays at friends or relatives, camping, rented cabins.
