Motorcycle and moped accidents tend to be more severe than other types of traffic accidents. Distinct differences exist between motorcycle and moped accidents, as well as between motorcycle and car accidents. Fatal motorcycle accidents are often caused by high speed, lack of experience or skills, and riding in groups. Road conditions—such as roadside terrain, sharp curves, and guardrails—contribute to 65% of fatal crashes, while vehicle-related factors are responsible for nearly 24%. Promising safety measures include enforcing speed reduction, particularly in curves, injury-mitigating measures for run-off-road crashes, and ensuring better vehicle maintenance.
