Sammendrag

This report summarizes some of the results from the innovation project PRESIS, which is a joint project with the railway authorities and operators with the goal to improve train reliability. We discuss how access to detailed data on infrastructure and train operations from the railway sector can be used to identify economic relationships which are crucial for railway planning and management. We show that temporary speed reductions have a statistically significant effect on freight train running time which also translates into delay at the destination. We also estimate how delays impact demand for railway services both in the case of passenger trvavel and freight.
