In this report, we have sought to compile and make available research-based and other documented knowledge of what kind of land use and transport development can contribute to making cities both more climate-friendly and more attractive. It also provides description of a way to carry out knowledge-based and transparent planning analyses. The aim has been to produce a useful, relevant and referable knowledge base, which planners and others can use when planning and steering urban development in directions contributing to more climate-friendly and attractive cities. The focus has been on knowledge usable at municipal master plan level, but we believe it may also be useful in other plans. We have emphasized that it should be relevant for both larger and smaller cities. The report is written in close cooperation with several user partners, and extensive dissemination work has been carried out as part of the project.
