This study presents findings from a process evaluation of the youth engagement program “Kjør for Livet” (KFL). Most former participants described their time in KFL as better than before joining and said they would have continued if given the opportunity. They highlighted the program as a weekly highlight. After completing KFL, participants had enrolled in vocational programs in upper secondary school and expressed a positive outlook on the future. While KFL appears to support well-being and motivation, its impact on traffic safety remains uncertain. Program activities involve vehicle-based boundary-testing in controlled environments. However, previous research shows such experiential learning can increase overconfidence, traffic violations, and accident risk if not properly guided. To have a positive effect on traffic behavior, training must be systematic and include reflection on risk and traffic situations. Our interviews indicate that KFL could improve in this area. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing both the program’s structure and its focus on traffic safety.
