This study, based on local transport planning experience in the national TP10, is intended to shed light on the role of traffic models as part of local planning and decision-making processes. The work is based on theory as well as practical experiences from the town of Tromsø. Despite extensive work on modelling and forecasting, it is revealed that interest groups, as well as political actors, paid little attention to these parts of the planning product. A view is held that there is a strong need to develop the co-operation and communication between experts and planners and other actors in transport planning. Several measures are indicated, as a basis for further exploration.
