Samandrag

The purpose of the project was calculating the health effects of increased cycling from 2006 until 2010, for each of the cities participating in the study of the Network of Cycling Cities, in 2006, and in the follow-up study in 2010 (Kongsberg, Sandefjord, Notodden, Grimstad, and Mandal). Also a control city, Larvik, has been included. Health effects were calculated in NOK following official Norwegian valuation of positive health effects from physically active transport, based on Handbook 140 by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, 2006. As the increase in cycling in the cycling cities (percentage who had used bicycle, number of trips, as well as kilometres per trip), from 2006 until 2010, was not found to be different from the increase in cycling in the control city, the positive health effects in monetary terms cannot be taken as benefits of the Cycling Cities project, permitting a comparison with the costs of the Cycling Cities project.
