The report presents the results of the Norwegian border visitor survey 1998. Practically all foreign visitors are included in the statistics. Altogether 3.3 million tourists from abroad who stayed overnight visited Norway this year, and in addition 1.2 million foreign day visitors crossed the borders. 74 per cent of the visitors went on a holiday trip, and 26 per cent were on a business trip to Norway. In total, the foreign tourists spent 25.3 million guest nights in Norway. The reports describes the distribution of this traffic in further detail with respect to mode of transport and type of accommodation used. The seasonal variation in the tourism traffic is also analysed. Some crucial characteristics of the motor tourists on summer holiday trip to Norway are also presented.
