Based on information from the Norwegian Travel Survey from 2009 a set of mobility types is proposed. The typology is developed by means of a two-step cluster analysis. Five mobility types are suggested, of which three are dominated by private car and two by public transport and cycling. Activity profiles are elaborated for each of the categories, providing detailed descriptions of travel patterns for selected respondents. Challenges and opportunities associated with the development of more sustainable mobility is discussed for each type. An assessment of areas of intervention to mitigate the use of private cars, and/or stimulate the use of public transport and non-motorized transport is done. The typology is intended to be used as support in overall transportation planning and market communication.
