Evaluating the Transportdemonstrator-project

TØI has evaluated the experiences gained by seven participants of the Transportdemonstrator-project. We found that the majority had already achieved considerable benefits, or will do so shortly by investing in information systems in planning and managing their fleet vehicles. This involves different combinations of fleet managing and/or optimum route planning facilities by using digital maps, addresses and road information, mobile data communication and GPS. The main results of the evaluation are: - Short payback period - More efficient transportation - Considerable cost-savings - Increased turnover - Improved services - Better control and documentation of the transport activities - Strategic advantages – increased competitive ability
