Electronic Travel Information on Terminals. An Overview of Experiences from the Trial Scheme for Public Transport

Authors: Heidi Renolen, Edvin Frøysadal
Report nr: 1018/1995
Language: Norwegian

This working report gives a summary of experiences with electronic travel information on terminals within the Trial Scheme for public transport. Monitors are used to present the next 10-12 departures from the terminal. The information given about delays is rather poor. Some systems have the possibility of asking for information via keybord or electronic map. The most convenient are the electronic maps, e.g. as in Trondheim. The new systems have had some starting problems, but vandalism is rather seldom. Oslo Sporveier is this far the only company that is trying out real time passenger information, based on detectors in the routes. The main challenge for the future seems to be coordination between the local transport companies, common standards for design and conversion of data from the route planning systems.
