Sammendrag

The report is an evaluation of a noise abatement scheme initiated by the Norwegian Road Administration. The evaluation has been undertaken through a before and after study with control group. 624 respondent answered the before questionnaire and 409 answered the after questionnaire. The mean noise level before the measure was implemented was 71 dB (69 dB in control group) outside the house and 43 dB (39 dB control group) inside. After the façade insulation the indoor noise level was 36 dB. 40 percent of the respondent were very annoyed with the indoor noise level in the before situation. After the measure 15 percent were very annoyed. Noise annoyance in the before situation was higher in the test group than in the control group, even when controlled for actual noise level. The proportion of tespondents resporting difficulities with falling asleep due to noise was reduced from 38 to 19 percent. The percentage reported being awakened by the noise reduced from 31 to 16 percent. This Report is available only in electronic version.
