Sammendrag

The study examines traffic safety effects of economical driving and fleet management system in three companies in two measurements at a four-year interval. The study indicates that measures for economical driving in general and fleet management system in particular have a good effect on traffic safety. The accident risk in Companies B and C ("experimental companies") has decreased considerably in the follow-up survey in 2018, with 52 and 36 % respectively, and the safety culture has improved. The interview data support the conclusion about lower accident risk. However, we conclude that organizational safety measures have the best effect on traffic safety, because Company A ("control company") has a higher level of traffic safety than the other two companies (71 % lower risk in 2013 and 46 % lower in 2018). This company has more safety measures than the other two, especially measures at the system level. Company A also has other framework conditions for safety, since the company transports dangerous goods.
