Competition and co-operation between different modes for local passenger traffic

It is important to have knowledge of the competition and co-operation between different modes if one want to get car drivers to use public transport or by bicycle/foot. The analysis shows that there are few reports that discuss the competion and co-operation in itself, but there is a number of reports that concerns factors that influence the competion between different modes. However, there are few reports that have gathered this knowledge together to an instrument for analysing competion and co-operation between modes. We have come to the conclusion that the following areas should be priorited to get more knowledge to measure competion and co-operation between walking, cycling, car and public transport and the potential for making the car drivers to use public transport or bicycle/walking: * Analysis of how travel patterns vary over time (short and long) for different groups of people and for different kinds of trips etc. * Analysis of how attitudes and knowledge influence the competion and modal choice. * Analysis of the competion between car and bicycle on shorter trips and car and public transport on longer trips. * Analysis of the competion for different types of trips: leisure trips, working trips, shopping trips etc * Develop kee numbers/measures for the competition and co-operation between different modes. Since this working report primarily concentrates on Nordic conditions, it would also be interesting to see what is done in Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Austria etc in this field.
